Brewer – Potchefstroom

Introduction

A leading South African manufacturer and marketer of Traditional Sorghum Beer and alcoholic beverages  is looking for a Brewer to join their successful team in Potchefstroom.

To supervise and control the production of the various brands of Sorghum Beer and other products, in accordance with the laid down procedures and receipts.
To ensure the company products are available to the points of sales in the right place and time in sufficient quantities

Duties & Responsibilities

• To control discipline and effective deploy on shift
• Maintain accurate records of staff attendance and report any absenteeism to immediate supervisor
• The effective operation of all plant machinery and equipment to ensure the required manufacture of consistent quality product
• The consistent processing, testing, monitoring and recording of all individual steps in the process of each brew, and reporting any deviation from norm to the immediate supervisor
• To compile records of raw material usage per shift including beer recons
• Ensuring an efficient flow of unscreened beer to the fermentation per requirements and recording thereof
• Supervision of staff in maintaining efficient and effective hygiene and standards are met
• Timeous reporting through job cards of plant and machinery defects and breakdowns to avoid delays and production spoilage
• To report all breakdowns or processing equipment and any receipt variations to the production manager
• Maintaining safe working conditions
• Assisting with the intake of raw materials into silos when necessary
• Liaison with Boiler House attendance to ensure adequate supply with changing production demands
• Ensuring cleaning of screening pipe lines
• Continuous liaison with Laboratory staff regarding sampling of beer and raw materials and requirements of testing solutions
• Checking requirements of general cleaning materials
• Checking requirements of yeast and enzymes
• Care and correct usage of testing equipment
• Performing minor maintenance work when required
• Other work or duties as instructed by Production Manager

Desired Experience & Qualification

• 3 year Tertiary qualification in Microbiology /Biotechnology / Food Technologist relevant
• Matric (Grade 12)
• Brewing technique certificate will be recommended
• 2 to 3 years’ experience in FMCG
