A leading South African manufacturer and marketer of Traditional Sorghum Beer and alcoholic beverages is looking for an IT Operations Manager to join their successful team.
Role Purpose
• Ensure that an efficient and sustainable IT infrastructure is in place to support the business.
• Ensure that network infrastructure is optimized for maximum performance.
• Ensure user support service is in place and all user queries are resolved within a reasonable amount of time or set SLA.
• Management of all IT related costs and ensure costs are optimized and within budget.
• Ensure the required levels of access controls, firewalls and back-up processes are in place.
• Oversight role in all system related developments and implementations.
• Management of a team of ICT Specialists under area of responsibility.
• Develop skills development programs and offer mentorship to subordinates under area of responsibility.
• Administration of all deployed IT Systems and recommend changes or new systems that generate business value. Systems include but are not limited to SAP S4 HANA, MMIS, CIS, and Macmobile.
Skills Development and Mentorship
• Guiding and providing leadership to the IT department and its technicians.
• Recommend relevant training programs for self and teams to close critical skills gap.
• Mentor ICT Specialists under area of responsibility.
Manage IT Infrastructure and Systems
• Oversee and direct the day-to-day activities of the organisation’s information technology (IT) department, ensuring that systems, services, and infrastructure work reliably and securely. This includes monitoring system performance and making recommendations for upgrades and patching.
• Assess system data integrity and error logs, along with user reports, to determine areas for improvement or repair. In this aspect of the role, an IT Manager may also determine when systems or servers are due for upgrades.
• Keeping an up-to-date asset register for all IT equipment. This includes tracking of asset movements for maximum accountability.
• Support the IT department activities while upgrading systems and servers and migrating the organization’s data. They may introduce new methods to streamline the upgrade process, monitor the system to ensure that it remains stable and usable, and maintain data security through the migration process.
Develop Department Policies
• Development and update of ICT policies and procedures to ensure that the department operates optimally. This includes developing service level agreements (SLAs), Knowledge bases (FAQs), employee handbooks for both IT and operations personnel.
Support and Maintenance
• Direct user support through handling logged issues. The IT Manager should also anticipate possible challenges and act prior to service disruptions.
• Put in place systems to ensure issues are escalated to technicians with correct level of skills and are resolved with SLA.
Negotiate Vendor Contracts
• Play a direct role in negotiating contracts with IT service providers. Assess department and business needs related to equipment and services and presents them to vendors. Compares pricing and vendor bids with their department’s budget, determines which vendors offer the most advantageous terms, and negotiates rates with those vendors.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in information technology and/or National Diploma from recognized and reputable tertiary Institution.
• Relevant ICT professional certifications are required.
• Post graduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Experience
• At least 3-years of post-graduate IT Operations management experience in a SAP environment.
• At least 5 years working experience in an ICT support and systems implementations environment with demonstrable duties and responsibilities.
• Working knowledge and hands-on experience of Microsoft products, IT network infrastructure (including SD WAN), telephony, and server hardware is required

• Team leadership: be able to direct and lead teams of IT technicians.
• Effective communication skills: strong written and verbal, able to communicate with team members, management personnel, and end users throughout the organization.
• Problem-solving skills – this role also requires excellent problem-solving skills, especially when it comes to directly addressing user issues with software, hardware, and servers.
• Budget management: ability to oversee department budgets and capital expenditures.
• Systems implementation skills: requirements/process analysis, conceptual and detailed design, configuration, testing, training, change management, support.
• Business process analysis and redesign experience: strong business analysis skills; process mapping; business process redesign and implementation
