A well established and trusted supplier of glass and plastic containers to various industries is looking for a Sales & Procurement Manager to join their successful team.
Seeking a dedicated and results-driven Sales and Procurement Manager to lead the sales and procurement teams and foster profitable relationships with new and existing clients and suppliers.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sales, expertise in international procurement, supply chain management, leadership, and an in-depth understanding of the packaging industry.
As a Sales and Procurement Manager at the company, you will play a critical role in achieving the sales targets, ensuring customer satisfaction, play a role in securing reliable suppliers, optimizing the procurement process, and managing the challenges associated with long logistical lead times and foreign exchange fluctuations.
The candidate must join their knowledge of sales and procurement to ensure that the Sales team targets opportunities that the company has a competitive advantage on and adds value to the customer while ensuring procurement sources competitively priced products with the correct quality worldwide.
Duties & Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Manage the sales and procurement teams in Johannesburg and Cape Town and ensure a cohesive sales and procurement strategy.
- Set clear sales goals and provide ongoing guidance and support.
- Motivate and inspire the team to exceed sales targets.
- Supervise, recruit, train, mentor and guide a team of procurement and sales professionals.
- Foster a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
Strategic Planning
- Develop and implement a sales strategy to expand the company’s customer base and market presence.
- Identify product ranges in Johannesburg and Cape Town that need to be consolidated.
- Identify products that are under performing and determine the reason and whether improved procurement will solve the issue.
- Identify slow moving items and prevent reoccurrence while solving the items.
- Create sales forecasts, budgets, and sales plans to achieve targets.
- Plan inventory procurement combining sales forecasts with procurement history to ensure correct stock quantities on hand at the correct time.
- Identify new product segments and ranges that could be procured and develop a procurement plan around them including new sources of supply and costings.
- Develop costing processes to ensure accurate costings and set target margins on each item.
Customer Relationship Management
- Identify new business opportunities and collaborate with the team to win new accounts as well as new products into existing clients.
- Address customer concerns and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Manage sales managers in Johannesburg and Cape Town to ensure execution of sales strategy that will cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key clients.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with, ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Market Analysis
- Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities.
- Use market insights to adapt strategies and identify growth opportunities.
Performance Analysis
- Monitor and analyse sales metrics to evaluate team and individual performance.
- Implement corrective actions to address performance gaps and maximize sales productivity and procurement efficiency.
Reporting
- Generate regular sales reports to senior management.
- Highlight slow moving items and progress on solutions.
- Provide data-driven insights to improve the sales process.
- Highlight margin achievement and discern between improved procurement and correct selling price.
- Generate regular reports on procurement performance, cost savings, and supplier evaluations.
- Provide data-driven insights to improve procurement strategies.
Supplier Management
- Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers worldwide but specifically Asia for packaging materials.
- Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality, and reliability.
- Monitor supplier performance and address any issues as they arise.
- Visit tradeshows and scout the market for new suppliers.
- Visit suppliers and assess capability, quality, and price.
Logistics and Lead Time Management
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize shipping and logistics processes.
- Manage and mitigate potential delays in the procurement and shipping of materials, especially considering long lead times from Asia.
- Ensure the timely delivery of materials to meet production and client demands.
Cost Control
- Monitor foreign exchange rates and ensure costings account for fluctuations.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost-effective procurement practices.
- Establish and manage information needed for procurement activities to ensure the correct product is acquired from the correct supplier at the correct price and quantity.
Quality Assurance
- Collaborate with suppliers to maintain consistent product quality and specifications.
- Implement quality control measures and procedures for incoming materials.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all relevant import/export regulations and standards.
- Identify and manage risks related to procurement and supply chain activities.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric
- Tertiary qualification essential
- 10 + years’ experience of Sales and Procurement
- Good understanding of financial knowledge
- K8 experience will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of PFMA
Behavioural Competencies:
- Proven experience in sales and experience in procurement and supply chain management, with a focus on international sourcing.
- Strong knowledge of the packaging industry, including materials, manufacturing processes, and industry trends
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

- Proficiency in using ERP and generating data driven reports from the software.
- Proficiency in managing logistical complexities, international shipping, and foreign exchange considerations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Understanding of costings, margins and pricing and procurement strategies
