Senior Buyer

Introduction

South Africa’s premier supplier of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Cleaning Chemicals, Paper Products, Industrial Consumable Supplies and Workwear is looking for a Senior Buyer to join their successful team.

As a Procurement Manager in the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) industry, your primary responsibility is to oversee the sourcing, procurement, and supply chain management of PPE products to meet the organization’s needs. Your role is crucial in ensuring the availability of high-quality PPE supplies while optimizing costs and maintaining supplier relationships.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Procurement Strategy: Develop and execute procurement strategies for PPE, aligned with the organization’s goals. This includes determining sourcing channels, identifying reliable suppliers, and establishing contracts and agreements.
• Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and select PPE suppliers based on quality, price, reliability, and other criteria. Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions with suppliers, and maintain positive working relationships to ensure a steady supply of PPE products.
• Sourcing and Purchasing: Conduct market research and stay updated on industry trends to identify new PPE products and suppliers. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand PPE requirements, forecast demand, and create purchase orders accordingly.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure that all PPE products meet the required quality and safety standards. Implement quality control measures, perform supplier audits, and monitor product certifications to guarantee compliance with regulations.
• Inventory Management: Manage PPE inventory levels to avoid stockouts or excess inventory. Monitor stock levels, track consumption patterns, and coordinate with suppliers for timely deliveries. Implement inventory control mechanisms and optimize inventory turnover.
• Cost Management: Analyse pricing trends, negotiate favourable terms, and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising on quality. Conduct regular cost and supplier performance reviews to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction.
• Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions in the supply chain. Stay updated on market dynamics, regulatory changes, and geopolitical factors that may impact PPE procurement.
• Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and certifications in the PPE industry. Maintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and documentation to support audits and provide transparency.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams such as operations, finance, and legal departments to align procurement activities with overall business objectives. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess their PPE needs, provide procurement guidance, and resolve any issues.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and streamlining of procurement activities. Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Grade 12
• Qualification in Logistics/Supply Chain/ Business Administration
• At least 5 years in a similar role
• Knowledge of all products sold within the workwear and PPE industry is advantageous
• Excellent in Syspro
