Introduction
A leading supplier of power tools and hardware to the retail, motor and industrial industries is looking for a Shipping Manager to join their successful team.
The Shipping Manager is responsible for managing the process relating to overseas purchases, from sending purchase order to receiving and payment including compliance with customs regulations and associated tasks. Negotiate best freight rates and manage foreign exchange.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for managing the process relating to overseas purchases, from sending purchase order to receiving and payment including compliance with customs regulations and associated tasks. Negotiate best freight rates and manage foreign exchange.
Manage Shipping (including documents)
- Liaise with overseas suppliers including placing orders and following up on claims and other queries
- Ensure confirmation is received from supplier
- Costing received and checked
- All necessary documents received, matched and filed
- Liaise with shipping agents and ensure information received back is checked for accuracy
- Monitor accuracy of shipping dates in ERP system and the follow up on outstanding orders
- Monitor Back order report and confirmation of ETA’S
Manage Payment of Overseas Suppliers
- Maintain records of amounts due
- Ensure all payments made as they become due
- Manage foreign currency payments and CFC contracts
Manage month end reporting
- Create/ review relevant files including FOB schedule, OPJ, Profit and loss
- Manage performance of creditor and GL recons
Ensure compliance with regulations
- Develop adequate processes, policies and procedures in line with customs regulations
- Monitor compliance to standards and institute remedial action where required
- Ensure adherence to customs legislative requirements
- Manage SABS and NRCS levy submissions
- Manage submission of documents required by Reserve Bank
Manage Human Resources
- Drive the team to deliver great customer service
- Ensure the content of instructional memos/policies/procedures is distributed and understood by staff
- Contribute to the team environment by recognising and reinforcing individuals and team accomplishments
- Ensure all staff have a personal development plan
- Manage time and attendance of staff, including punctuality
- Maintain a positive work environment for team members
- Mentor and coach the team to meet desired results, including training up new employees
- Conduct training on an ongoing basis
- Deal with grievances timeously and in accordance with company policy
- Resolve employee conflicts and disputes
- Apply discipline for misconduct timeously and in accordance with company policy
- Ensure the correct recruitment and selection of the DC personnel in respect of company policy
- Manage overtime and absenteeism
- Compile annual staff leave plan
- Ensure performance appraisals for all staff are conducted in line with company policy
- Comply with all LRA and BCEA requirements
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric
- B.Com qualification or Ships agency certificate advantageous
- 3-5 years’ relevant experience
