Workshop Technician

Introduction

A leading supplier of power tools and hardware to the retail, motor and industrial industries is looking for a Workshop Technician to join their successful team.

Service, repair and test electronic equipment i.e. welding machines, cutting units as well as industrial related equipment i.e. pneumatics, power tools , compressors by stripping, identifying components, quoting and repairing the machines within the service level parameters.

Assist Customers with product set up, demonstration and training when required.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Service, repair and test electronic equipment i.e. welding machines, cutting units as well as industrial related equipment i.e. pneumatics, power tools , compressors by stripping, identifying components, quoting and repairing the machines within the service level parameters.
• Assist Customers with product set up, demonstration and training when required.
• Receive incoming machines with associated job card either issued by the Manager/ Foreman or self-collection
• Check job card for correct machine information e.g. auxiliary equipment and accessories
• Examine machine for general condition and visual external damage and record findings on card
• Test and / or strip machine and clean components in preparation for evaluation.
• Examine & evaluate components, identify and list part numbers, description & quantity required on job card
• Hand job card back to the Administrator
• Make a clear note on the job card if this is a factory warranty or not. Compile quote
• Escalate common faults on products and suggest improvements to relevant Category Manager
• Repair upon acceptance of quote from Customer
• On go-ahead to repair, check if correct spares have been issued, as per quote on job card
• Carry out comprehensive test of machine to ensure correct and acceptable operation
• Thoroughly clean machine and sign off job card. Return machine to allocated area, and hand job card back to Workshop Administrator
• Monitor and maintain safety regulations and standards in the workshop, including prevention of fire hazards
• Monitor and maintain housekeeping standards
• Safe and correct handling and storage of all tools and equipment
• Responsible use of safety equipment and protection equipment
• Adhere to procedures, including levels of authority, in order minimize shrinkage, theft and wastage
• Provide product set up, demonstration and training to Customers and third party repair agents when required
• Provide telephonic advice to Customers

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Grade 12 with Maths & Science / Technical N3 Maths & Science
• Industrial Electronics (N2) and EngSc (N2)
• Between 3- 5 years working experience repairing welding machines
• Knowledge of transformer and inverter technology, multi-function welders and plasma cutters
• Must be willing to occasionally work extended hours and on weekends and assist with demonstrations, training and shows when required off site

Package & Remuneration

R13K – R15K CTC Per Month.
